Privacy Policy
BibClick collects, stores, sells, and transmits no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.
Stored on your device only
-
Preferences (
storage.sync): your default citation format and the “start collapsed” toggle. If you're signed into your browser, these sync across your own devices through your browser vendor — they're never sent to us. -
Citation cache (
storage.local): citations BibClick has already generated, kept so revisiting a paper or switching formats is instant.
This information stays in your browser. It is never transmitted to the developer and can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage.
Network requests
BibClick only makes requests when you view a supported paper page (and, for some sites, when you generate a citation):
-
Crossref API (
api.crossref.org) and, as a fallback, the DOI resolver (doi.org) — to look up citation data for the paper's DOI. - The publisher page you're viewing — on some sites, BibClick reads the page (or its URL) to find the paper's DOI.
These requests contain only the paper identifier (DOI/URL) needed to build the citation. BibClick does not send your browsing history, identity, or any personal information. Your use of Crossref and doi.org is also subject to their own privacy policies.
Permissions
- Storage — to save your preferences and the citation cache locally.
- Host access — so the extension can read a paper's DOI from the publisher page you're viewing and contact the Crossref/DOI APIs. BibClick acts only on the supported academic sites; it does not read or collect data from other websites.
Children's privacy
BibClick is a general-purpose research tool, not directed at children, and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, an updated version will be published here with a new effective date.
